French Wines of Provence |
On Tuesday Evening, September 1, AHI Travel hosted a wine tasting for our group. Julien Maraninchi, the owner of Simplement Vin, a local wine shop, brought six wines for us to taste and gave a lecture on the wines of Provence. He offered lots of information about wine production in France and especiallly about the wineries in Provence. I should have taken notes! There were six wines for us to taste: two whites, two rose, and two red. They were all very good but distinct from each other. We were surprised to learn afterwards that all of the wines were priced at under 7€ each. We've learned that you can get some very good wine here at most reasonable prices! Rose in France is particularly popular during the summer and accounts for almost 70% of his summer sales! More than a few of my fellow travelers remembered the early days of our marriage when we would drink Mateus and Lancers.

Wine Lecture |
After the tasting, our tour director showed up with several good French cheeses and a basket of bread. The ten of us commenced to try to finish off the six bottles of wine and all the cheese. So yes..... once again our dinner was wine and cheese. This is getting to be a habit. I must admit that we didn't quite empty all the bottles so a couple of us returned to our rooms with what was left of a bottle of wine. Never waste good wine!
